Toledo Skeptics is committed to hosting meetings that are fun, friendly, and informative for all participants. This includes creating an atmosphere that is free of personal harassment.
All meetup participants—including attendees, speakers, vendors, exhibitors, and guests—are required to adhere to our code of conduct during official meetups and events, and when communicating with participants using related social media tools.
Toledo Skeptics does not tolerate harassment of or by participants in any form.
Human interaction can be complex and confusing. Skepticism and scientific inquiry often involve challenging subjects. As a skeptical group we welcome difficult questions and strive to create an environment where people can openly discuss uncomfortable, even sensitive, subjects.
Honest inquiry should be met with respect and earnest discussion. Please be generous when evaluating the motives and beliefs of others. Give others the benefit of explaining behavior you find offensive or unwelcome. However, participants asked to stop any prohibited conduct are expected to comply immediately.
Prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to: harassment related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, sexual images in public spaces (not related to talks and presentation materials), deliberate intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Harassment of individuals for religious beliefs will not be tolerated.
Racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic conduct will also not be tolerated.
Failure to adhere to our code of conduct will result in eviction, blocking from our Meetup, Facebook and other Social Media groups, and banning from future events, without refund, at the sole discretion of the organizers.
If you experience or witness a violation of this Code of Conduct, please report it!
You can report a violation by talking to any organizer in person or by sending a direct message to anyone listed as an organizer or host on Meetup or Facebook.
We take all reports seriously and prohibit retaliation.
Toledo Skeptics welcome families with children and expect all participants to treat these families with courtesy and respect. Parents or guardians bringing children are responsible for their children’s behavior. Be aware that not all discussions may be suitable for children.
Toledo Skeptics strive to choose accessible and welcoming local businesses for our events. We expect representatives of these establishments to behave in ethical and welcoming ways towards members of the LGBTQ community and people of any faith, ethnic, cultural, or gender identity. If a location fails to meet this expectation in any way, please bring this to the attention of one of the organizers, so corrective action may be taken.
